The strata series explores the different types of technologies humans have used to store knowledge. From mnemonic devices tied to the landscape to books and now smartphones, humans have always used devices to contain important knowledge of the world around us.




Strata XX was completed in 2022 and measures 2”x3”x6”

This book is a rebound non-adhesive cord binding of an English-Russian dictionary riveted to walnut covers. The edges of the book are hand torn and painted with gouache to mimic strata layers. It is housed in a handmade clamshell box with a zebra jasper rock.
