The strata series explores the different types of technologies humans have used to store knowledge. From mnemonic devices tied to the landscape to books and now smartphones, humans have always used devices to contain important knowledge of the world around us.
Strata XXV was completed in 2023 and measures 3”x5”x3”

This book is a rebound non-adhesive cord binding of an English dictionary with wooden covers. The edges of the book are hand torn and painted with gouache to mimic strata layers. It is housed in a handmade clamshell box with inlayed petrified wood and bone-clasp closure.
